8th annual Victoria International Accordion Festival – July 18-20, 2014

The annual Victoria accordion festival was very successful.  It was held on Friday, July 18 through to Sunday July 20th.  The BC Accordion Society (www.bcaccordion.ca)  organized and hosted the festival with support from the Victoria Accordion Club.

The competition for soloists was held on Friday July 18th at First Metropolitan United Church on Quadra Street (address: 932 Balmoral Street) in Victoria.   Other activities were held in conjunction with the festival.

The schedule:

Friday, July 18 – 2 pm – 7 pm – competition for soloists – First Metropolitan United Church; 932 Balmoral St, Victoria.

Friday, July 18 – 8 pm – Concert: Night of Stars – First Metropolitan United Church, 932 Balmoral St. Victoria.  Featuring: Stas Venglevski (Russia/USA), and Jianan Tian (China) and Jelena Milojevic (Croatia/Canada).   

Saturday, July 19 – 11 am – 1 pm – Free public performances at Market Square in Victoria.  Featured winners of the festival competition, Victoria Accordion Kids Band, and Victoria Accordion Club Band

Saturday, July 19 – 6 pm – “Boomers Bash” dinner dance” (click here) – by the Victoria Accordion Club; a lively and fun 60’s dance highlighting music of the 50’s & 60’s.  A lot of flared skirts, ducktail hair, ponytails, and plenty of rock ‘n’ roll!!  Location: Victoria Edelweiss Club, 108 Niagara Street (in James Bay area), Victoria

Sunday, July 20 – 1 pm – 3 pm – workshop and demonstration of accordion music, movie on the history of the accordion. Location: Victoria Edelweiss Club, 108 Niagara Street (in James Bay area), Victoria.
